All you need to know

01 New Patient

Your initial visit

A new patient’s initial visit usually includes a full examination and a dental cleaning. It’s a lengthy appointment, but it’s necessary to provide the patient with appropriate care from the very beginning. The full dental examination includes an assessment of the teeth, cavities, existing fillings, gums, tongue, soft tissues, palate and inside of the cheeks; small and large X-rays; pictures of the inside and outside of the mouth; general periodontal treatments; and the assessment of prosthodontics, if relevant. Due to the exhaustive nature of this examination, a second appointment may be necessary in some cases to share the results of your oral health assessment and to finish the cleaning, if necessary. Once we have all the information we need, we will be able to tell you about the different possibilities available to you so you can make an informed decision. Once the full examination has been completed, we recommend that you come back for regular dental checkups (excluding dental treatments) every 3, 6, 9 or 12 months, depending on your oral health (every 6 to 12 months is most common). These shorter examinations consist of a cleaning and a few X-rays (fewer than for the full examination) to check how your oral health is doing. After your first full dental examination, we will give you a personalized Les Dentistes du Vieux-Port de Montréal gift box. It’s a travel kit containing most of the oral health items you might need while travelling.

Insurance

If you have dental insurance, we’ll make life easier for you by submitting your claims online, if your insurance provider allows it. This way, we can tell in seconds how much is covered by your insurance. If electronic claims aren’t accepted by your insurance provider, we will fill out the paper claim form for you so that you can be reimbursed as soon as possible. This is just one of the many services we are happy to provide.

Medical questionnaire

During your initial visit, you will be asked to fill out a form with important information about your health. To make the process quicker, you can fill it out and submit it online. Rest assured that all information will remain confidential. It’s important to notify us about any changes in your oral health each time you visit us.

Sterilization

We use the industry’s most stringent aseptic techniques. Some of the more common are: - Ultrasonic cleaners to remove germs and to pre-clean - STATIM and Masteri CLASS B AUTOCLAVE sterilizers, known for their effectiveness and reliability. In addition, an independent laboratory conducts monthly biological tests to verify the effectiveness of each of our sterilizers, to ensure you are protected against any contagious disease. - The Sinius by Sirona chair that we use is currently the most hygienic on the market. It has a full 24- to 72-hour self-cleaning feature. In other words, if a patient who has been treated on the chair is deemed to be highly contagious, the self-clean feature will be enabled for the next 24 to 72 hours. This brings the contamination risk as close to zero as possible for the next patient.
